From the quiet Fangcheng Port to the busy Singapore, from the calm Indian Ocean to the turbulent Atlantic Ocean, from the beautiful South China Sea to the rich Gulf of Mexico, from the pirate-infested Gulf of Aden to the mysterious and strange Bermuda, from Malacca to Suez, from Dombroto to Mississippi, from the Gulf of Beibu to the Aegean Sea...... First, across the Gulf of Aden, to prevent piracy, also to prevent COVID-19

From Fangcheng Port to Morocco, it is necessary to pass through the pirate area of the Gulf of Aden. The company arranged armed security guards to help the crew members deal with pirates. However, it was inevitable that the brothers would have to live with armed security.

At that time, there were always news on the Maritime Public that the crew of a ship was stranded in Suez after being infected with COVID-19 by armed security guards. For this reason, the brothers on the ship are worried.

While strengthening the duty, we should not only ensure the normal rest and diet of several armed security guards, but also ensure our own safety. But my ship is a simple Japanese-built boat: living quarters are limited and there is no Suez room. We went to great lengths to do so. In addition to strictly requiring the crew brothers and the three security guards to wear protective clothing, masks, gloves and other necessary personal equipment, we also isolated more than half of the A deck as a special living area for armed security guards: including three separate rooms, a toilet, a bath room, and the senior crew dining room. This ensures that crew members and security guards never share dining rooms, baths and toilets. Corridors, staircases and other passages that security guards and crew members have to share are disinfected every hour.

In this way, through the unremitting efforts of our brothers, we finally sailed safely through the pirate zone and successfully passed through the Suez Canal.

Second, dangerous goods operation, professional to ensure safety

Concentrated sulfuric acid is one of the most dangerous goods that can be loaded on our ship. We must ensure the safety of loading, unloading and washing the hold. We must not allow any brother on board to be injured, nor can we allow any equipment damage or hold corrosion caused by the crew's wrong operation. We must educate all the brothers on board about the physical and chemical properties of sulfuric acid and the proper way to handle it. The goal: not only to let the brothers know how to do it, but also to let everyone know why they do it. For example, why do we need to open and close valves slowly when loading and unloading goods? The biggest harm of sulfuric acid is its corrosiveness, why is it also defined as toxic goods, what is toxic; Why should the washing machine be started first or after the pump when washing the tank? Why is it not enough to turn on all the washing machines when washing the cabin, but also add Piron; Why is it necessary to test the hydrogen content of adjacent compartments when sailing, etc. Only when each brother is in control of the nature of the goods, we can ensure the safety of the operation.

Third, new routes, new challenges

When it was known that my ship would sail to the United States after leaving Morocco, there was a lot of concern. Of the twenty-two men on board, only seven had ever been to America, and of those, only one of the crew had gone on his present duty. We also have to face USCG inspection, and of all the people, only three crew members have USCG inspection experience, which is not accumulated in the current position. This is not only a new route for us, but also a new challenge.

Prior to this, the USCG inspection of other brother ships of the company has passed with zero defects! Undoubtedly, this is a great lash to us! If others can do it, so can we! No experience, afraid of what? Didn't Zhu Geliang lead soldiers before he left the mountain?

With this unyielding drive, we worked overtime almost every day for drills and training before we left for the United States. In order to achieve good training results, we also draw on the essence of Shell training and divide the training team into groups of no more than six people. Each group has a group leader, and all are held by the four major heads. The group leader is not a trainer, but only a resource provider, and each group member is the real trainer! Through this training method, the brothers quickly mastered the working principles and operation methods of various emergency equipment.

In this way, after repeated exercises and training, the crew can skillfully operate all kinds of emergency equipment, and can communicate their emergency duties fluently in English. Even an old comrade over fifty can speak a few words of fluent English. During the exercise, everyone reacted quickly and methodically, and all actions listened to the command, which seemed to have the quality of soldiers.

Fourth, where there is a will, there is a way, and the USCG inspection has passed with zero defects

The hard work paid off. Through the correct guidance of the company leaders and the unremitting efforts of all the crew brothers, we finally passed the USCG inspection with zero defects on April 12, 2022.

Just the night before the USCG inspection, Captain Tang Yupeng personally boarded the ship to guide us before the inspection. After the guidance of Captain Tang, the next morning, we greeted the most stringent PSC inspection recognized in the world with the spirit and professional quality that should be maintained by a sailor.

Four USCG inspectors arrived at the gangway at 9:00 a.m. on the day of the inspection. At this time, the captain, old rail, mate and other people have been waiting in the ladder. Four inspectors inspected hull paint, load-line markings and gangway placement before boarding the ship. Apparently, they were pleased with the new shell and secure ramp arrangement. Chief Inspector STEVEN was the first to board the ship, greeting the captain and the rest of the crew warmly. From that moment on, we breathed a sigh of relief, because we were sure that this inspection would pass with zero defects! Because the prosecutor was very pleased with the first impression of my round!

Fifth, skill contests, housekeeping ratings, karaoke contests —— We love our jobs and we love our lives

In order to make the training on board more fun, we hold skills competitions on weekends from time to time. For example, wearing personal protective equipment such as fireman's gear, chemical protective clothing, safety vests, tying knots, skittering cables, etc. The enthusiasm of the brothers to participate in the competition is very high. Through competition, many crew members not only enjoy the fun of competition, but also realize their own shortcomings, thus enhancing the fun of learning.

In order to satisfy our brothers' pursuit of a decent life, we will give everyone time to clean up and conduct internal evaluation whenever possible. And appropriate rewards for superior performance. In this way, we gradually develop the habit of keeping good housekeeping. Every day after work, see neat and clean room, no matter how tired today's work, will have a good sleep. And then the next day, I'll be fresh to work.

Crew life is boring after all, in order to add a bit of fun to our boring life, we also have a karaoke competition in our spare time. The purpose is to let those brothers who are not used to the life of the crew, slowly fall in love with sailing.
