On November 14th, the naming and launching ceremony for t SC-STOLT's 9,200 DWT Stainless Steel Chemical Tanker No. 2 was grandly held at Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry ("Wuchang Shipbuilding") of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC).




The ceremony was attended by WU Guirong, Chairman of SC-STOLT, QU Minwei, Director of SC-STOLT, ZANG Yingui, Deputy General Manager SC SHIPPING, WANG Kai, Technical Department Manager SC SHIPPING, Dirk Holmen, Newbuilding Project Director of STOLT, Andrew Adams, Ocean Route Manager in Singapore, TIAN Jun, Deputy General Manager of Wuchang Shipbuilding, LI Tao, Business Department Director of Wuchang Shipbuilding, Ms. YANG Juan, LIANG Zongqing, Chairman of Shanghai Odely Marine Engineering Co., Ltd., and HE Wei, Deputy General Manager of the Wuhan Branch of China Classification Society, among others.




WU Guirong expressed his gratitude to all project participants on behalf of SC-STOLT, praising Wuchang Shipbuilding's expertise in chemical tanker construction and the solid foundation of cooperation between the two parties. He noted that every significant milestone of the new vessel is a testament to the close collaboration and relentless efforts of all parties involved, as well as the fruitful results of win-win cooperation. WU emphasized that with the development of the global economy and the expanding chemical product transportation market, the market demand for efficient, safe and environmentally friendly liquid chemical transportation is growing. The successful launch of the 9,200 DWT Stainless Steel Chemical Tanker No. 2 signifies SC-STOLT's further expansion in the field of liquid chemical transportation, reflecting the company's steadfast commitment to ensuring navigational safety, improving transportation efficiency, and strengthening environmental protection.


TIAN Jun stated that the chemical tanker launched this time is not only a showcase of Wuchang Shipbuilding's technical strength but also an important outcome of the cooperation with SC-STOLT. He expressed that they will continue to explore more cooperation opportunities with SC-STOLT. Throughout the project advancement, Wuchang Shipbuilding has overcome many difficulties and has always adhered to the use of advanced technology and high-quality materials to ensure that the vessel meets strict standards and customer demands. Looking ahead, Wuchang Shipbuilding will continue to adhere to an innovation-driven development strategy, continuously enhance its core competitiveness, actively respond to the national "Belt and Road" initiative and the strategy of becoming a strong maritime nation, and contribute to the high-quality development of China's shipbuilding industry.


Ms. YANG Juan named the new ship "Shui Rong" and performed a ceremonial ship christening with champagne, wishing the auspicious ship perseverance and courage to forge ahead, bringing a fortune to the ship owner.



"Shui Rong" is the second of two 9,200 DWT stainless steel chemical tankers ordered by SC-STOLT from Wuchang Shipbuilding, with the first tanker successfully launched on September 30th. This tanker is designed by Shanghai Odely Marine Engineering Co., Ltd. classified by China Classification Society, and is a new generation of high-end stainless steel chemical tankers that cater to both domestic and international trade, focusing on environmental protection and energy saving.


SC-STOLT, a joint venture established in 2005 by Shanghai SC Shipping and Stolt-Nielsen, currently operates nine ships, with two under construction, totaling a cargo capacity of 54,000 DWT. The company has passed the TMSA audit of well-known companies such as BASF, SHELL, XOM, etc., as well as SIRE inspections by major oil companies like SHELL and BP, and inspections by the Chemical Distribution Institute (CDI). It holds a leading position in the domestic transportation of fine liquid chemicals, such as PMDI, TDI, HMD, PO and other cargoes.
